What would you do as a Department Contact?

A Department Contact is a member who has agreed act as link between the staff in their department/staffroom and the branch committee. They might distribute newsletters, put up posters and speak to new and existing staff about joining the union. Department Contacts are also our eyes and ears on the ground, telling us about the issues affecting staff in their area so that we can better represent our members.

How large an area would you cover?

As a Department Contact, the scope can be as wide or narrow as you like. For example, it can just be your staffroom or your vocational area. We can have more than one contact in a department.

How much work will it involve?

You can do as much or as little as you are comfortable doing. It is a great starting point if you are thinking about getting more involved in our branch/union, but there is no pressure to get involved any further being a Department Contact is already a huge help to us!

At present the work of the branch is carried out by a small group of reps trying to cover two campuses – so any additional contributions by branch members are greatly appreciated.
